A group of citizens has organised several activities against the incinerator for 25 and 26 July. The programme has been announced at a press conference on the esplanade of Orio Beach. On the 25th, from 12:00 a.m., Felix Olaetxea and Ainhoa Intaurraindiet will offer a talk about the irregularities of the incinerator and the discharges in the Oria River. On the same day, at night, the documentary Incinerator will be screened, which closes its doors to the public. On Sunday, 26 July the weekend will be completed with the human chain against the Zubieta incinerator. Life at the center. Under the slogan "stop incineration", they have called on citizens to participate in mobilisation. All activities will take place in the prairie of the beach.
Enara Etxeberria and Nadeth Arruti have explained that many of the foods produced in "this Gipuzkoa that has been built" are too toxic to be marketed. In his words, in addition to allowing the poisoning of companies that have been damaging water, air and land for years, they have set up the incinerator. Etxeberria and Arruti have commented on the "direct damage" suffered by the incinerator, including the discharges of the river going to the Oria river and the fish found dead.
"Studies show that dioxin generated by the combustion of waste, furans and heavy materials causes disease and health effects, such as cancers and damage to the respiratory system," they said. In addition, Co2 figures also have a major impact on climate change.
Instead of building the incinerator, Etxeberria and Arruti believe that there are more sustainable, economically viable alternatives without the risk of health being at such risk. They have therefore called for the implementation of a comprehensive plan that covers the entire waste process, that "promotes minimization, extends the life of products and materials and carries out an efficient system of selective collection". The objective is to recover "a culture that shows concern and concern for putting the health of individuals at the centre, ceasing to be puppets of criminal leaders".
