- No to the incinerator, yes to health! The claim was widely echoed this Sunday in La Concha Bay. The burning of the Zubieta incinerator and the creation of a human chain in Donostia-San Sebastián have been the protagonists of this second day of regattas. Several groups have joined the mobilization called by the Anti-Incinerator Movement, including the unions LAB, ELA and CCOO, EHBildu, Ezker Anitza, Alternatiba...
With today's mobilisation, they wanted to draw attention to the intention to launch the plant on Zubieta, "after the burning of raw materials in the testing phase (PNV, PSE), Diputación Foral, GHK and companies (Urbaser, Murias, LKS, Altuna and Uria for many years. Its fireplaces smoke during these months and, unfortunately, it will soon be possible to demonstrate that the poisons that we have denounced many times are spreading around."
Faced with this situation, "those of us who for many years have been fighting against incineration and for the rational management of waste, we continue and will continue to fight because, as we have said on many occasions, there is a healthier, greener and cheaper alternative than incineration", according to the organizers.
Mobile human chain
It is a human chain adapted to the health crisis in which we are immersed and which seeks to "stop the incinerator with the efforts of all". In the line, with a margin of safety among the participants, the route has been completed with the kisses and without making stops. Other years, until the regatta end, they are installed on the beach of La Concha. This year no, he has left the City Hall of Donostia, has crossed Alderdi Eder and the aforementioned beach, and from there they have headed to Perla and back to the City Hall door.
On the way, there have been constant calls for incineration and for health, as well as demands such as "your business, our misery", aimed at the promoters of the incinerator.
One of the placards made it clear: "It's a shame. Incineration=climate change". Even in the demands made by the citizens, they have remembered that "your business, it is our cancer" or that "your business damages our health". There were also messages addressed to the authorities, recalling the existence of alternatives to incineration.
In favour of this, since the human chain that has been forced to repeat after many years was committed to alternatives that protect health, the environment and the Gipuzkoan economy.
