The Group of Basque Political Prisoners (EPPK), in a note published last Monday, has reiterated that its “greater obligation” is to end the suffering of all and all, committing to take steps to this end. “Although penitentiary policy based on revenge and emergency legislation remains unrepealed,” they recalled. “Although others have the key to our locks, our will is not going to fail.” He appreciates the massive demonstration of 7 January in Bilbao towards the return of all prisoners, and warns that that day there was a “desire for people” to end the suffering.
On the occasion of 17 April, International Day of Political Prisoners, EPPK has tried to convey to them the message of solidarity: “We want to send the warmest embrace to all revolutionary militants who have been captivated in the world to combat oppression and fight for freedom, in almost all cases under very harsh conditions.”
In the case of the members of the EPPK, the group states that the completion of the policy of alienation and dispersion has been a “long awaited news”, as it has brought only suffering for many years. “He has strengthened the indefensibility of prisoners for infringing rights and has mercilessly punished our relatives,” he said. It also reminds relatives who have died on the roads as a result of isolation.
He has highlighted a clear objective for the coming years: “To overcome the conclusions of the previous cycle and end suffering”. The EPPK undertakes to alleviate as much as possible the pain of everything it has suffered, emphasizing in the document that respect for the rights of all would produce a beneficial situation for the Basque Country, “even to meet its future political and social challenges”.
