The Administrative Court of Pamplona has deleted the bilingual profile of a work post of the City of Zizur Mayor. Given the situation, various agents of the municipality have risen up against the “judicial work in Basque” and have called for a concentration. The organization calls on all Euskaltzales of Navarra to join the mobilization. It will be held on 8 February at 17:30 a.m. before the Superior Court of Justice of Navarra.

The following shall be added to the mobilisation: Zizurko Euskara Taldea, the Observatory on Linguistic Rights, the Euskera Defense Network, EHE, ELA, LAB, STEILAS, Geroa de Zizur Mayor and EH Bildu de Zizur Mayor.

Gurpegui points out that only one of the nine positions available for works had a bilingual profile, and they have removed it. He argues that in this position he is in contact with people: “It takes place on the street, among other things, in the celebrations of Olentzero and Reyes, in the fires on the eve of San Juan, in schools, in the house of culture, in the Gaztetxe”.

Judges against the Basque Country

Gurpegui stresses that in the first appeal against this bilingual profile, the Administrative Tribunal of Navarra supported the City Council and stated that the bilingual profile was “absolutely legal”. It has now done the opposite: “Against this decision of the Administrative Tribunal of Navarra a new appeal was brought before the Administrative Tribunal of Pamplona, having received a judgment against the City Council.”

Gurpegui denounces the “absolute Euskaphobia” of the judges: “Judges play as if they did not know the European Charter of Regional or Minority Languages. Spain has signed and ratified this Charter.” Gurpegui has claimed that the recognition of the Basque official in Navarra is “indispensable”: “It is necessary that judges do not put their ideology above the laws”.
