The 10th Congress of the PSE-EE has ratified Eneko Andueza as General Secretary of the party, being the only candidate to this position. The meeting of the Basque socialists, held from Friday to Sunday at the Kursaal Palace in San Sebastián, ended with the appointment of Andueza, in which he declared that the party is "capable and willing" to lead the future: "It has been a congress for history, a congress of illusion, strength, ideas and hope."
The Executive Committee of the PSE-EE has resumed its position as President, since the appointment of Andueza as Secretary, taking the place of Mount Idoia, in 2021, the socialist party has not had a President. Cristina González, who is currently the Secretary General of the Socialists of Álava, has been elected to the post. Among others, Miguel Ángel González and Begoña Gil will continue in the commission, leading the areas of Organization and Institutional Policy, respectively, and from now on Denis Itxaso will be the General Secretary of Housing.
The committee will include, for example, the Provincial Deputy of Alava, Jon Nogales, in the Secretariat of Economic Policy and Digital Transformation; Susana García Chueca, in charge of Transport and Sustainable Mobility; Ana López Uralde, in charge of Equality; and Estibaliz Canto, in charge of Education and Culture. A total of 30 members will form the new leadership of the Basque Socialists, 18 of them men and 12 women.
Building "Greater Equality"
Andueza explains that the objective of the party is to solve the main concerns of the Basques: it mentions, among other things, the Public Health "that will give the measure", that everyone has access to decent housing, "more decent jobs" and the construction of a "more equal" Basque Country.
The Secretary General of the PSE criticized the proposal of EH Bila to form the extended joint lists to the PNV and the Confederal Left last week: "We do not want, like others, the Basque Country of common fronts. This happened in the past and we know how it ended."
