Emostiu self-managed festival: an emotional weekend
- The Emostiu Festival, organized by the self-managed collective My Heart Your Mouth (MHYM) in the Casal space of Joves Can Ricart in Barcelona, has welcomed two days of excitement. In this edition concerts of fourteen hardcore-emo-punk groups have been held, in the interior patio of the house and in the concert hall.
The demand for self-management and Zuk-Izan philosophy (DIY) is the center of the festival and the collective, against macrofestivals. It's a festival born of collaboration. Thus began the two-day concerts, claiming collective self-management and thanking other groups of the self-management network that have given their support, such as Los Almendros de Granada or CSA Las Vegas de Málaga.
On Friday, emoviolence and screamo concerts were screaming and cathartic noises. At 19:30 the festival began, in the interior patio, with short and intense songs of great force brought by the Donostian band Ordara emoviolence; the following two were from Granada, cuandoelmarpierdelasconchas and Ramper. The first one offered a powerful direct, with amazing moments, and the second, with long, melancholy songs, created a special atmosphere.
The following three were held in the concert hall; Amalia Bloom, a group of emotional hardcore from the Italian city of Vicenza, inaugurated the second part of the first day; Drei Affen was the trio DIY emoviolence of Cantabria, which filled the energy room, screams and distortions; Øjne of Milan closed the day since 2011.
The day opened on Saturday with the trade fair of handicrafts and self-publishing of emofia. Several artists showed and sold their works. It looked like everything: illustrations, fanzines, clothes, self-edited discs… Along with the fair they organized a small competition of the Hot Fridge video game.
The second day was less fat, but with the same strength and intensity. In the interior patio, the audience started dancing with soft and agile melodies from the Garbí group of Valencia. The following three were from Madrid: The couple Carantoña a week ago launched the EP Entraña live, singing very strongly with the audience; it was the first concert of Meeky in Barcelona, presenting the album Experiencia Miguel that they have brought this year, with easy and clear melodies; and the last concert of the interior patio was given by Nogato, with fast and nice songs.
The last four concerts were performed internally. Boys Kissing Boys started with the midwest emo of Pamplona, live of pure energy presented the new EP Un Tropiezo and encouraged the whole audience; Bernal de Valencia were the following, with songs full of emotions and feelings around everyday life; Comic Sans midwemest of San Sebastian, which this year ended the concert of the Lost Power.
A beautiful weekend full of music, excitement and sweating ended on Sunday at 2:00 a.m. Throughout the weekend there was a love for music and a desire to enjoy concerts, with an atmosphere much closer to the public, to the groups and to the regular organizers. It is perceived that this is a festival made with affection, in which there are still nice alternatives outside the usual consumption patterns.
