The Football Association (AFE), the majority union, met this Tuesday at the Palau de la Generalitat. A total of 188 players from the 16 top-level clubs in Spain participated, 93% of which voted in favour of the strike. The date of the start of the strike, which will not be the date of this weekend, is still unknown due to the deadlines set by the law.
The time was for the football unions to talk about a possible strike because the negotiations are blocked at various points in the collective agreement, especially in the case of the partiality clause. It is the main obstacle. Trade unions demand that mid-day players have an annual minimum wage of EUR 12,000, which is 75% of the minimum wage of EUR 16,000 that the agreement could determine for full-time gamblers. The Association of Clubs, for its part, has reduced this percentage to 50%, which would mean leaving the salary of football players at EUR 8,000.
We have said that the minimum wage can reach EUR 16,000, which is what the employers are asking for. The AFE trade union wants the amount to be EUR 20,000, but it may be willing to lower the figure, because this has been demonstrated, for example, by another trade union from the negotiating table, Futbolistas On.
"It's not just a matter of money."
"We are the full-time players," said Tirapu, who has been convinced of the situation. "When we go for dinner, when we travel, when we go to events organized by the club... Some have been playing for many years and have barely paid. It's not just a matter of money. And yet, we accept a 75 percent bias if that serves to reach consensus. But it hasn't been possible."
