Protecting patient safety seems to be the reason for this. In fact, many professionals do not know Euskera and, therefore, will not be able to understand what is written in Euskera. On the other hand, translations by professional translators are very expensive. If things are going well, it can be ready by 2020, and we can start doing with peace of mind what we have been doing for a long time: writing in Basque.

I don't participate in Itzulbide, I don't need it. To start with, I don't waste my time writing bilingual texts. I write in Basque or Spanish, depending on the patient. In the field of health, this is bilingualism: to attend to the Castilian speaking language in the Spanish language and to the Basque language in the Basque language. Secondly, because an automatic translator does not guarantee the safety of patients, but can question them. Although Osakidetza has not developed enough trajectories, he is forced to respond to the demand of professionals and citizens, without shaking the Castilian speaking people. In fact, several hospital doctors have begun to write in Euskera the parts of hospital discharge, without the permission of the management. Therefore, their answer will be an automatic translator: from now on, vasco-speaking health professionals will be able to write in Basque without disturbing anyone, provided that the writing is translated into Spanish.

Nevertheless, I am very pleased and proud of the efforts of Osakidetza. What no one has achieved will be achieved by the Basques. The Anglo-Saxon invented ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. It was they who conducted the first controlled clinical trials, they invented antibiotics, vaccines, antisepsis. The national health system, universal and free of charge, was self-satisfaction, as evidence-based medicine. But despite being rich, despite being the strongest group of speakers in the world, they haven't been able to develop an automatic translator in the field of health. They don't use it, they don't see it necessary, and many don't accept it. But they weren't the first to go around the world, but Elkano. The other thing is whether or not it was given for our benefit. Like Elkano, and in exchange for little money, we will use an automatic translator for the first time in the world of healthcare. We have to see whether it is for our good or not. But we will certainly achieve one thing: we will be allowed the right to write in Euskera, knowing that Euskera will never be obligatory, or to do so in Euskera with the patient. We're not going to bother anybody on our shore. In the short term, I am calming to write in Basque; in the long term, hypnotic harmful. That you go around the world to be in the same place.
