ELA has called strikes for the 27th and 28th of January in canteens and educational transports, as it has accused the Department of Education of the Basque Government of "unwillingness" to negotiate and provide solutions to the everyday problems of sector.Asimismo, ELA has denounced that the Department "does not guarantee the maintenance of the supply, security or employment of the service and does not take into account the working conditions of these groups".
According to the union, at the second and last meeting with the Department of Education, held on 11 January, "has not provided data showing a real commitment to school canteens or school transport and has once again considered complementary services that transferred responsibility for the supply, maintenance or schedules to the addresses of the centres and to the SMO". In addition, the union has underlined the following: "In school transportation, no action has been taken against COVID-19, there is no minimum protocol. Buses continue to 100% of their capacity and the mask is only used by those over 6 years old."
As for the dining room, the union has reported that the Department of Education has a budget of 180 million euros for school canteens this course, "although it has not explained how it will distribute money".
