ELA joins the demonstration on 6 November in defense of the public school
- In addition to the unions LAB, STEILAS, CCOO, ESK and CNT, ELA also called this Thursday to mobilize, as well as other social and trade union organizations. The demonstration, organised by the Basque Harro Public School, will be held on 6 November in Bilbao.

The platforms of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Oyón, Bilbao, Santurtzi, Oarsoaldea, Astigarraga, Amurrio, Donostialdea and Lasarte-Oria, the Communities of the Basque Public School of Ordizia and Goieskola, the Association of Pupils and Mothers of the Basque Country, have also joined the call.
A "dual, classicist and racist" educational system
At the press conference on 26 October, Topagunea condemned the "dual, classicist and racist" educational system and stated that he was acting against the Basque public school, as it generated "segregation and students of two levels".
Based on data from the analysis of the sociodemographic evolution of the Basque students carried out by the consultant Silvan & Miracle, the attendees of the press conference have emphasized that the situation is serious: "We are one of the most segregating communities in Europe and the Spanish state," he added. In this regard, they have argued that education should not be subject to the logic of the market and that the economic capacity of families should not condition the right to education.
These are the demands of the Basque platform Eskola Publikoa Harro:
1: The public school must have a full priority of the Administration ' s financial, material and personal means, as it is a school of all and for all.
2: Calling for a single school. Consequently, a comprehensive and free public offer should be guaranteed in all municipalities and neighbourhoods from 0 to 18 years old.
3: End privatization. All private initiatives, including non-compulsory stages (early childhood education and high school), should be authorised, concerted and terminated with the policy that supports them with public money. At a time when the birth rate is declining and concerts with private centres are being renewed for the next 6 years, the administration will be provided with a fairer use of public money.
4: In this respect, the Basque Government will create a consensual regulation that makes it possible to advertise the centres.
5: Generalize the model of immersion in Basque. Private centres that do not finance with public money and therefore have linguistic models that do not Euskaldunise and act against inclusion and integration.
In addition to questioning the Basque Government, Topagunea appeals to private centres because "they take advantage of this situation to maintain their privileges, renounce inclusion and help increase segregation".
The mobilization will take place on 6 November at 17:00 at the Bilbao Education Delegation (Calle Mayor Diego López de Haro, 85).
