The director of the Ecuadorian penitentiary system, Edmundo Moncayo, has assured at a press conference in the government palace that the riots in three prisons have caused the death of 75 prisoners, according to Telesur.
The clashes have occurred in the prisons of Cuenca, Latacunga and Guayaquil, and although initially 62 deaths have been recorded, the authorities have subsequently raised the number of deaths to 75.
According to Edmundo Moncayo, the riots began from the clashes between these two bands. One of them has tried to kill the leader of the opponents, but they have come forward and responded by initiating riots in several prisons at once.
Moncayo has stated that prison officials and social workers "left the facility on time" and that there are no injuries or injuries among them. As for the 800 police officers who have been sent to end the clashes, yes, there are injuries.
