The Spanish Minister of Industry, Reyes Maroto, has announced the date of June 22 before various international media. Two hours later, Moncloa rectified his words and resumed the scheduled date, that of 1 July.
Since March, the border between Ipar and Hego Euskal Herria has been closed, and since then, the inhabitants of both sides have only been able to cross the border for reasons of exception. The Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, pointed out at a hearing on Thursday the date of 22 June, at the request of the territorial authorities of both parties. With the announcement that the northern inhabitants crossing the border will not be quarantined, even though the Government of Spain initially expressed that intention. In any event, today and following the Moncloa amendment, it will not be possible to cross the border freely until 1 July.
Since 1 July, the government intends to open new borders to the citizens of the European Union in order to give way to tourism in Spain. Before taking this step, Maroto considered it appropriate to extend the borders of France and Portugal, and in that context he referred to bringing the date forward.
