Concentration before EITB headquarters to demand the Basque translation of international films
- (H)itzartu EITB convenes a rally for 20 May, Stop betoa! International films in Basque! under the slogan. The initiative considers that the audiovisual offer plays an important role in the revitalisation of the language and denounces that the current audiovisual policy infringes citizens' rights.
Stop betoa! International films in Basque! Under the motto (H)itzartu EITB convenes a concentration in front of EITB headquarters on 20 May at 12:00.
This initiative was created in December 2021, from the audiovisual movement in Basque. They propose a "profound transformation" of EITB. The initiative considers that audiovisual provision plays an important role in the revitalisation of language and in the construction of informal standard language. Therefore, it considers "urgent" that EITB make a broad and attractive offer of audiovisual content in Basque, given the lack of current offer of fiction in Basque.
He denounces that for years ETB has "veto" the offer of international content in Basque, rejecting the dubbing in Basque of the programming grid. For the members of (H)itzartu EITB it is not acceptable to reject dubbing in Basque and Basque in order to improve the hearings.
Thus, they invite institutions to rethink current audiovisual policies, considering that the current ones violate citizens' rights and harm language.
This week the echo of some debates on automatic dubbing has come to my ears. It seems that there are certain artificial intelligences that are on the way to achieving a high level of dubbing, comparable to human beings, and that can perform dubbing work in real time.
