The Basque Committee of the EITB denounces the rejection of the Basque language requirement in management positions
The Basque Committee of the EITB has expressed its rejection of the selection processes for the management positions carried out in recent months. Three people who do not have a C1 level have been selected for key positions: For the direction of EITB Media, for the direction of both Social Media and Eitb.eus, and for commercial direction.

The Basque Committee criticizes the situation and says that the objectives set in the EITB Basque Language Plan have been “frustrated”. He also warns that directors who do not know Basque implement Spanish in their relationship and management processes, adding that the EITB is spreading the image of “exclusion and underestimation” of Basque.
The Commission recalls that the Basque Language Plan 2023-2027, agreed with the management of the EITB and the staff representatives, set clear objectives. One of them was to promote the use of the Basque language within the EITB and to spread a strong pro-Basque position in society. He denounces that the management does not comply with the bases of the plan, which negatively affects the image of the EITB.
There have been “setbacks” in the EITB and language requirements have been tarnished, the committee said. He explains that in the calls that have just come out, the C1 level in Basque has not been requested, on the contrary, the established condition has been the mastery of Basque, Spanish and English. However, this is not the first time that the Basque language level requirement has been ignored. In fact, he was appointed director of Eitb.eus Nagore de los Rios C1 in December without a degree.
The EITB staff committees and editorial boards have joined the complaint of the Basque Language Commission. The management of the EITB has been asked to re-examine the final selection processes and establish the corresponding requirement for the academic level in Basque in all positions.
