Basque Country reception!, More deaths at the borders!, Papers for all or all without paper! The Aliens Act kills people every day! On Sunday, eleven stirrups against racism were opened from Trintxerpe to Donostia. A large number of people have joined the action organized by SOS Racism and supported by almost 50 other actors. The protest has begun to rain, but in Ategorrieta it has stopped and along the way more people have joined the anti-racist march. In Gros, on the Paseo de la Zurriola, the group of samba Taupada has been united and the followers of the march have been very pleased.

This year they wanted to focus on the border situation. SOS Racism, Imanol Legarda, explained that last year the border situation of the Bidasoa was denounced and that, in the meantime, after a massacre at the border with Melilla, attention was drawn to violence at the borders: “We call on the European Union and the European governments to ensure the defence of human rights. There is political will, there are good laws, but laws are not guaranteed, and massacres occur every day. Many people die before they reach the limits. The nearest case is Bidasoa.”

Fernanda Cándida, spokesman for the march, calls for immediate measures to ensure that destinations are not deadly. “Between the years 204 and 2022, at least 46,622 people have died at the borders. The actual amount is much larger. And where is the limit? How many more deaths are needed to start taking action? Today it is more necessary than ever to raise the voice of those who do not want to be accomplices to violence at borders. We call on the European Union to take steps to arrive safely and legally.” Candida is a member of the UPV A!Esan student association. The project comes from the racialized community of the UPV/EHU to raise awareness about the reality of rationalized people. He has been one of the spokesmen for this year’s march and has read the Basque text. He has just acquired Spanish nationality. It has taken almost two years to get the document, but it recognises that it has been easier, as it usually takes 3 or 5 years. He was born in Brazil and at the age of 8 he moved to Bilbao. She is currently studying psychology at the Faculty of Donostia.

Changing a single letter get a strong refrain

As usual, the Design students of the Usandizaga Institute have made the motto of the march and the whole communication campaign. Olatz, Joseba, Ainhoa and Lauritz have been running on Sunday. It is explained that the reflection on the limits began to revolve around the target word, and they realized that by changing a single letter, a very strong word was created and it was a very effective motto to denounce. They want to draw attention to the existence of a deadly limit that can be the fate of several people. With the yellow and black color of the march, its intention has been to turn them into warning signals. Many students have recognized that the preparation of the campaign has provided them with a new vision of racism. In addition, this year’s group has been students from different backgrounds and they have all had the opportunity to share their experiences.
