In Delhi, the capital of India, thousands of migrants have packed their bags and have begun to return to their places of origin via the highways. The confinement decreed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in recent decades to deal with the coronavirus has led to the beginning of a migration process without knowing the country.
“You, those who live on the street, are afraid of the disease, but I am more afraid of hunger,” said The New York Times Papu, 32, who decided to return to his country after the new situation.
So far, 980 people have tested positive in India and 24 have died from this disease, although, as in the rest of the world, the spread of the virus is expected to be greater. And even though the authorities decreed confinement, they face a big problem: India is one of the countries with the most homeless people in the world. This was the case before the coronavirus and in the new situation the number of homeless people has tripled, according to information provided by NGOs.
