The initiative was launched on 28 August and will continue until 30 p.m. During the first night more than 300 residents of the surrounding villages went to the NAM tank area to show their support for the actions being carried out by the blockade. The Groningen Land Movement, of over 4,000 people defending the interests of the victims of the area, expressed its "total support" for the Code Rood movement.
The police used violence against activists and experienced moments of tension, as can be seen in several videos about the event. According to RTV Noord, five people were injured by the police, one of whom was shot. The police took advantage of porras and tear gas, and a person who was left in shock had to be transported by ambulance to be treated.
The 13 kilometers from the camp to the place where the company was located were divided into six “fingers”: by bicycle (purple), by foot (yellow and red), by boat (pink), by bus (orange) and by train (green). In addition to Dutch entrepreneurs, people went from different European states to take part in the action: Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, France and United Kingdom.
Following the trail of the German movement Ende Gelände, massive civil disobedience initiatives are being carried out against projects contributing to climate change. Agents displace hundreds of people dressed in white and blocked. Last year, a similar initiative took place in the port of Amsterdam. Code Rood means red line in Dutch.
