This Tuesday, 26 May, the elections to the Rectorado of the UPV/EHU are held. The campaign is being confused, and proof of this is that the team of Joxerramon Bengoetxea has called for "the investigation of actions supposedly performed by people of Eva Ferreira's candidacy or its environment, as well as irregular campaign practices".
The candidature Denon Artean de Bengoetxea has made this request to the Electoral Board, the Ethics Committee and Aldezle. The note refers to the complaint made by the Student Council: "The people of Ferreira's candidacy have gone through several classrooms to ask students to vote, through lies or malicious practices. They say that the other candidacy is of a certain political ideology and that if Bengoetxea wins, the degrees and master's degrees in Spanish will be eliminated, as well as the Spanish Experience Classrooms."
The Denon Artean group has "questioned" whether academic activity should be suspended in order to request a vote, since the electoral regulations "state that only the Council of Students can do so, once, to encourage participation". He has also denounced that four days before the elections a vice-chancellor who is part of Ferreira’s candidacy has sent a massive message, setting in motion a service that is part of the Bengoetxea candidacy programme. "It is clearly electoral in its tone and is absolutely forbidden in any electoral process," said the PSE-EE Secretary-General. These facts demonstrate "an inadequate attitude" by the candidacy led by Ferreira and "a violation" of the code of ethics, according to sources from the Executive.
"The Council of Students and I have tried to maintain neutrality throughout the campaign, but in the face of some things I cannot remain silent," said Council President Iñigo Ugedo, in a message broadcast on Saturday, 23rd. "In the last few days lies and complaints from students have come to us in different ways. In addition, we know that some professors have brought their students to the secretariats and suggested that they vote for a specific candidacy."
At the beginning of the course, the elections should be the main event on the UPV/EHU information agenda. At the School of Social Sciences and Communication, we also have a double appointment, as the assembly of our center will also be elected in October. It opens up the... [+]
