A very large falcon has been shot this weekend in the Jaizkibel area and, according to the Ecologist Eguzki Group, is the third animal of protected species that has been hit by a shotgun in October. On this occasion, the Council of Gipuzkoa has taken action and has closed several posts on the Jaizkibel hunting line. Eguzki has been "satisfied" by the Deputy's "response" to the club's request in recent years. They have explained, however, that the Member's response is not "the starting point of a different policy", but "the accumulation of cases in October".
Eguzki has warned that shooting at protected species "is not a one-off problem" in the hurricane area. On 6 October in Errezil, a small eagle and on 16 May in Segura, a blue elanium was found wounded. They report that the eagle died and that the elanium is forming in the Casa Arrano. The environmental group has reported the two cases to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the aim of identifying the perpetrators of the shooting. They have also reminded the Member that, as soon as they are aware of the alleged crimes, they should inform the prosecutor and the judge, bearing in mind that attacking protected species may involve a prison sentence.
