The shadow behind the solar panels
When you get to the car, you enter a landscape full of windmills. In recent years, especially in the Ribera area, along with the mills you can also see solar panels that create large metal fields.
At first glance, the traveller may think that Navarre has made a determined commitment to renewable energy, but the truth is that behind solar panels there is no ecological intention, quite the opposite. In 2017, the quadripartite approved an energy plan that favored the multinationals. Unfortunately, the legal framework approved by the quadripartite is contrary to a sustainable geographical organisation of Navarra and based on councils and municipalities; among its objectives is not to achieve energy sovereignty, necessary for the ecological transition, and therefore municipalities and councils do not have the right to build autonomous, small and nearby infrastructures (which have less impact on the environment, are cheaper and do not impose market laws).

Instead, wind turbines and solar panels mentioned above are added to the high-voltage motorways, thermal power plants and other infrastructures, which means: For greater economic benefit for private companies, more expensive energy for citizens and more violence and poverty for countries that have mineral mines that are essential for producing panels. Once again, we get the energy clone that we live in the real estate cycle.
Much of the energy produced in Navarre goes abroad, while in the districts of Pamplona/Iruña there are families who cannot and cannot turn on the heating. A clear example of today's capitalism: the most radical in wealth and poverty a few kilometers away. The energy model also shows the nonsense of the whole system. In fact, the energy system in Navarre has a direct relationship with the Zaldibar landfill, which is what we have in front of us.
