The PNV maintains its hegemony in Bizkaia and EH Bildu grows noticeably in number of votes
- The PNV has been imposed in Bizkaia, with 12 seats, and the PNV has won in Bizkaia. However, it has not risen in number of votes, as has EH Bildu, who abstained. This second has risen substantially in the number of votes, being in second position with 7 seats, while the PSE has remained in second position. If something has been emphasised in the 2020 Basque Parliament elections, the turnout has been low.
The PNV wins the 2020 Basque Parliament elections in Bizkaia: With 200.029 votes (42.60%) he won 12 seats, one more than in 2016. However, the number of votes has fallen from the previous elections, with 238,581 votes recorded in 2016, a decrease of 42.07%.
As for the number of votes obtained, there has been some party that has stood out, with EH Bildu. After the PNV, the PNV has achieved 7 seats, two more than four years ago. He obtained 112,443 votes (23.94%), an increase of 6.38% compared to 2016, in which he obtained 99,610 votes (17.56%).
The PSE-EE has been the third political force, maintaining the three seats it had in the last regional elections. He obtained 63,843 votes (13.59%), compared with 66,506 in 2016 (11.73%). The party won in Ermua with a total of 1,672 votes (26.64%), being the only municipality to win in the three territories.
Behind them are Elkarrekin Podemos and PP+Citizens, in fourth and fifth place respectively. Compared to 2016, Elkarrekin Podemos has lost two seats, with 40.340 (8.59%) votes, achieving 2 seats in this year’s elections; in 2016 he obtained twice as many votes: 84.195 (14.85%).
The pp and citizens have only achieved one seat, losing one of the two they had in the Upper Chamber. There were 32,018 votes (6.81%), less than half of those achieved four years ago, compared to the 66,091 (11.65%) that they achieved in 2016, a decrease of 12.5%.
Low participation
Today there has been the lowest turnout known since 1994. 1,794,316 people were called to vote, 75,998 residents abroad and 1,718,318 residents of the CAV. 52.86% of the people summoned to the ballot box voted at the CAV level, while the abstention rate was 47.14%.
Bizkaia was, behind Álava, the territory in which the least participation was recorded. Of the 910,067 Biscay invited to participate in the 2020 Basque Parliament elections, 52.52% participated, which is 8 points lower than in the 2016 elections, when the turnout was 60.48%. Abstention, on the other hand, stood at 47.48%, compared with 39.52% four years ago.
