In addition to exceeding 55% of the workers who have supported the strike, "thousands of workers have participated in the demonstrations of the
three Basque capitals", trade unions stressed. "For all these reasons, the minimum services established by the Basque Government have been excessive: thousands of workers have been deprived of the right to strike and the minimum services have
made it conditional."
29,000 workers on strike
Today's strike is convened by non-university teachers and special education, as well as by kitchen and cleaning staff. They have called for mobilisations in the capitals of Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia and Araba to call for the strengthening of public services and the improvement of working conditions. The trade unions state that this call “adheres” to the two days of strike convened throughout the public sector of the CAPV on 25 October and 19 December. UGT and LAB do not join the call.
Among the main demands are the alleviation of the workload of the workers, increasing the hours of management in the schedules, the provision of resources to respond to the reality of current students and the recovery of the lost purchasing power in recent years, which has already reached 20%. Rejuvenating working groups, stabilising jobs, updating the OPE model and reducing real time to 8% are some of the requirements.
The unions say that, in the end, the staff and facility care service “does not work”. “The Department of Education is bunkering and leaves workers and schools aside,” the unions underscore in their appearance.
They denounce that the agreements that have been made public regarding the working conditions in the framework of the CAPV Education Bill “are not enough” and that, besides lacking rigor, they have not responded to the contents they claim. Clear request to the Department of Education of the Basque Government: “that they abandon the educational policy that privatizes and precarizes”. The aim of the trade unions is to negotiate and incorporate in the new sectoral conventions all the “improvements” they raise.
LAB does not support the call
Through a public note, LAB says that “it will not join Tuesday’s stoppages.” He indicates that the demands contained in this call for a strike are “general” and are included in the public sector claims called for 25 October and 19 November. LAB has put “forces” in them.
