The municipal group of EH Bildu has supported the official request of the CNT and has asked the City Hall of Donostia-San Sebastián and the Gogora Institute to derail the Francoist cross. They have also asked “to look for all the victims of Franco who were buried with the fascists in the mausoleum”, that is, to encourage the continuation of the research carried out in 2022 by several historians of the city: “The Basque Government, in particular the Gogora Institute, is not asking anything that has not asked the Government of Madrid in relation to The Valley of the Fallen. That is, the mausoleum must be demolished and all the resources used to know the identity of the people in the grave must be used”.

The Abertzale coalition made the petition on Friday, on the 88th anniversary of the entry of Francoist troops to Donostia-San Sebastián. EH Bildu took advantage of the ephemeris to remember, like every year, that it is necessary to reclaim “memory and dignity”. In addition to participating in the act of memory convened by the Historical Memory Council of the City of Donostia-San Sebastian, he also participated in the act of memory of the victims of the genocide. He also warned that the reactionary sectors have called for the names of fascists to be added to the Dual sculpture: "This keeps us on guard and we will stand firm so that there is no attempt to distort and dirty the origin of the work for memory," they said in the broadcast note.

Incomplete investigation

As EH Bildu pointed out in his note, the Aranzadi Society of Sciences began the investigation of the mausoleum in 2022 and then developed a list of 121 people buried. After a first analysis, it was found that “at least” seventeen of them were anti-fascist fighters and militiamen. Above all, militants of the PCE, CNT and UGT, who came to defend San Sebastian from the fascist troops. The Aranzadi Society then confirmed its intention to continue the investigations, as it was still to be determined whether there were "other fourteen" in the property.
