In fact, the members of the Gaztetxe have tried to open a communication channel with the City Hall to reach an agreement, but Mayor Eneko Goia made it clear in October that his intention is to recover the property of the building. Thus, on December 26, the Local Police informed the members of Kijera of the activation of the emergency administrative procedure for the eviction of gaztetxe.
From the gaztetxe they have stressed that "the implementation of this procedure makes no sense, after twelve years of emptying the building, since there is no solid project for the building". Furthermore, they denounce that the urgency of the procedure and the reduction of deadlines through it have no justification whatsoever.
On the other hand, they have stated that "the best option in the face of these violent attitudes of the City Hall is to continue the struggle" and for this reason, they have shown their firm will to stop eviction "with all the means at their disposal, building networks of solidarity and organizing resistance". To do this, from Thursday onwards they will perform "resistance shifts" in the building and everyone who wants to collaborate in the defense of the gaztetxe has been invited to approach Kanpandegi Street.
They have also invited citizens to participate in the demonstration in favour of the Gaztetxe Kijera to be held on 4 January at 19:00 from the Plaza de la Constitución.
