“We have conducted this concentration against the sexual assaults that have occurred in our people in recent days and weeks. We, as women, want to live free, but apparently, it's not at all easy yet. We wish to thank the security forces for the arrest of their perpetrators. And, as it could not be otherwise, we want to show our solidarity with the victims, because in our country these kinds of activities have no place,” said Deputy Mayor Nekane Arzallus.
The mobilization also involved the director of Emakunde, Miren Elgarresta, who came along the same line as Arzallus, with the focus on the last attack, especially: “We express our strongest rejection and, at the same time, we want to offer our full support and support to the victim. To this end, we make available all our services and resources. It has to be said that we need a society that unanimously says that it is sufficient in the face of these sexist attacks and that they cannot be accepted. We know that male violence is the main consequence of inequality between women and men, and to that end, we need the support of society. The institutions will continue to work on promoting equality policies, because we know that as society becomes more egalitarian, male violence will have less place in ours.”
On the occasion of the last aggression, the City Hall of Donostia-San Sebastián approved the following institutional declaration on Monday, to which the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa added:
1.- The City Hall strongly condemns the aggression suffered by our neighbour. This is another episode of male violence that has occurred in our city.
2.- Expresses its support and solidarity to the victim of this regrettable attack, as well as to his immediate family and environment. The City Hall brings to the attention of all women who suffer or have suffered situations of violence, who can go to municipal services and resources if they so wish.
3.- This type of aggression is the most abominable expressions of male violence and of the attitudes of gender inequality that still persist in our society and are rejected by the City Council. It is essential to continue working, together with the social, feminist and social agents of the city, for education in values and for equality between men and women. And work on gender education to equip them with skills and resources for their management. It is also necessary to emphasize the need to continue intervening daily in the factors that cause these types of attitudes.
4.- The City Hall calls on the public to participate in the repulse concentration to be held tomorrow at 12:00 in the gardens of Alderdi Eder.
5.- The City Hall adheres to the repulsive calls made in the city.
