San Juan de Luz fisherman dies in Spain, Cantabria
- The fisherman has died as a result of an accident at sea in which fishermen were travelling. The man was rescued on Saturday afternoon when he was working on the boat Hunekin Aski, where he was traveling. He died in the hospital.
By 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, the boat had launched an alert requiring the evacuation of a crew member. The alert was managed by the maritime rescue services of the French State, from Toulouse (Occitania). The ship, which was 25 miles from the Cantabrian coast (Spanish State), was intervened by the services of the Spanish State at the time of the accident.
The worker was treated on the same boat by the Ertzaintza relief services. But his condition was serious and he was evacuated. According to the Cantabrian media, at four o'clock in the afternoon the helicopter took off from the city of Santander to evacuate the sailor to the hospital in Valdecillas. The medical services could do nothing to save the life of the man who died at the scene of the accident.
30 workers killed in 2024
This year there are 30 people killed by work accident, counting on the fisherman of San Juan de Luz. According to the list of deaths in workplace accidents published by LAB, this is the first fatal occupational accident that occurs in Iparralde.
