Donald Trump is charged by a New York jury for paying around 120,000 euros to pornographic actor Stormy Daniels, according to The Guardian. For the first time a former US president has been prosecuted on criminal charges.
The indictment relates to the election campaign for the 2016 presidency. Trump rejects that he had another relationship with Daniels, but did pay through Trump’s then-attorney Michael Cohen. He believes he maintained relations with the actor in exchange for not divulging them.
Details of the complaint against the former head of state have not yet been published, but Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has opened a statement to confirm the citation. Because Trump must stand in New York to be formally arrested and filed for the first time before the judge. It remains to be determined, but it has been opened on Tuesday, 4 April.
Trump’s top Republican allies have on Thursday denounced the criminal charge against the former President of the United States, arguing that they want to distort the new candidature for the White House by 2024. Kevin McCarthy and other Republican leaders face Prosecutor Bragg.
