The municipal group Podemos de Vitoria-Gasteiz will ask the Economic Promotion Commission of the City of Vitoria-Gasteiz, on 8 January, to repeal the conventions of great celebrations "free". "We are not naturally opposed to voluntary work, but we are opposed to the use of this work by large companies to increase the economic benefit gap, and to the complicity of public administrations."
The city has been the object of controversy over the search for 170 volunteers to perform their professional work at the Euroleague Final Four. As explained by the spokesman for the municipal group of Podemos, Jorge Hinojal, "the personalities will arrive in the city in the coming days, and during those three days, for nine hours, the people who will serve them and who will be responsible will not charge a hard charge." According to Hinojal, this professional work cannot be free of charge.
That is why the spokesman for Podemos will demand on 8 January in the Municipal Economic Promotion Commission a "more responsible" attitude of the City Council in the face of the next major events and that abusive situations be paralyzed when signing agreements. "The promoters of such competitions can say that this is what is there and if we do not accept they will leave, but we cannot take part in excesses," he added. According to the response of the municipal government, the Podemos group will analyze whether in the coming days it presents the same request in the General Councils of Álava and in the Basque Parliament, as the Final to Four has also been subsidized by the Provincial Council and the Basque Government.
