The Right to Die With Dignity Association calls for the authorization of palliative care and assistance to the patient during deconfinement
- The Right to Die With Dignity Association (DMD) has called for the right to a "good death" to be taken into account after the worst possible state of health. It has submitted three requests to the Technical Committee for Deescalation; authorization of assistance to elderly and incurable patients, palliative care and funeral rituals.
“The new normality must respect all rights,” said DMD Vice President Fernando Marín. In the situation so far, when the health system has been full to its limits, it has said that it is understandable that certain rights are not respected, but that when the situation improves they must be respected and enforced.
Like deescalation, the partnership has added that these measures should also be implemented asymmetrically. However, in the current situation, they have declared that it is "unacceptable" for there to be no support measures for sick relatives, and have demanded that they be allowed "using effective security measures".
As far as funeral services are concerned, they will be authorised from the first stage, with fifteen in the open air and ten in the closed places. The DMD requested that it be declared a basic service “to allow a more humane greeting, always with security measures”.

Marín believes that there has been no possibility of palliative care in the worst weeks of the health crisis, but that it has been based on the physician's awareness. In this regard, it has asked the Spanish Government to ensure palliative care, both in homes and in hospitals and nursing homes, so that they die without suffering and dignity.
However, from the DMD they believe that the health crisis allows us to discuss the successes and errors, and they have clearly explained what can be improved: the time of death.
