The First International Congress on Common Democracy will be held from 13 to 16 October in Donostia-San Sebastián and Hernani. This is a conference organized by the Peace and Dignity Association of the UPV/EHU and the Research Group on Social Sciences Part Hartuz, which will be a place to “address concrete collective ideas and practices that question and transform current democratic models”.

This Thursday morning the provisional programme was presented at the Hernani Feminist Intercultural Plaza space. From these experiences, the influence of the concepts of common democracy on the different cultural and political realities will be analyzed.

We will analyze cases, from theory and practice, of people and groups working in communities of social transformation and working from a country perspective. Rapporteurs will meet from all five continents and from different countries. These include Silvia Federicci, Raúl Zibechi, Amaia Pérez Orozco and Darío Azzellini.

In total, more than 120 lectures will be offered: communications, studies, thematic tables on local dynamics and conferences on research cases from countries (Chile, Brazil, Italy, Basque Country…). Meals will also be offered. In Hernani there will be a communal dining room for 100 people, and on the last day the program will be closed with a popular meal and a concert.

Registration

Most events are face-to-face – with more than 250 people in capacity – but due to the situation of the pandemic it will also be possible to follow online. Registration is open until October 8 on the event website.
