The French police arrested former prisoner David Pla in Hendaia this morning, an alleged member of the imprisoned eta. After continuing the judicial control measures, the police arrested him at the Baiona police station, where he was taken to the police station.
The French Court of Cassation ruled in December last year in favour of the extradition of Pla. The Spanish National Court made a request for Euroorder in relation to ETA for an alleged meeting of the terrorist organisation in 2008. However, defence lawyer Xantiana Cachenaut explained in the court that the French police reports delude the defendants.
In order to denounce the detention, a concentration will be held at 19:00 in the afternoon, in front of the Hendaia Town House. Bake Bidea and Bakegile have called for the immediate release of Pla and have called on the citizens to come to today’s concentration. Sortu and EH Bai have also made the same message public. Eh Bai denounces that, instead of having attitudes and actions to build peace and coexistence, the Spanish and French states "have maintained and built a scenario of confrontation". Like Pla's arrest, the coalition has lamented the "revenge attacks" of recent times, including the cases of Jakes Esnal, Xistor Haranburu, Lorentxa Beyrie and Ibon Fernández Iradi.
Pla left jail in April last year. He was arrested in Baigorri in September 2015, together with Iratxe Sorzabal, in connection with the facts. As a member of ETA’s management, he was sentenced to five years in prison, while Sorzabal was sentenced to seven years in prison. Pla and Sorzabal stressed that they were working to resolve the political conflict in Euskal Herria and that they tried to enter into talks with France and Spain until they were arrested.
