Students from the Otxarkoaga public school will be able to study in Model D from the next course
- In the course of 2021-2022, model D will be implemented in the public school CEIP Otxarkoaga HLHI, starting from the classrooms of 2 years.
The Association of Gypsy Women of the Basque Country (AMUGE) has called for registration in model D. The vicelehendakari of AMUGE, Tamara Claveria, said in Bizkaiko Hitza that she understands that this is a right: “We all have the right to know the language in which we live. I think it's very important to think about Euskera. It also opens up many possibilities of finding a trade. The administrations’ offers demand a certain level of Euskera”.
In seven of the nearly 350 schools there is only model A. The vice-president explained that two of the seven centers are located in the Otxarkoaga Bilbaíno district in Primary.
Claveria has pointed out that there are a large number of Roma families, among which only 1.23% say they speak in Basque. “The petition was born by women and men working with the Amuge association. They also want to learn Basque. The families of the neighborhood have asked for it.”
The implementation of model D at the Artatse school in the course of 2022-2023 is also foreseen.
