The measure will affect cleaning teams working in the health sector, administrative staff, maintenance staff and other personnel who do not provide direct care. The National Institute of Social Security will recognize cases of coronavirus infection as an accident at work in social health centres, but also in the case of non-health workers.
In November 2020, those who did not work in the field of health described contagion as a “common disease”. The decision has been amended on the basis of the appeal lodged by the LAB trade union against the LAB decision. The Institute has classified the infection by COVID-19 as an occupational accident to a worker of the maintenance services of the Hospital de Cruces (Barakaldo, Bizkaia).
According to the resolution, contagion can be prevented through prevention and protection measures. Otherwise, the company will be liable for the lack of the necessary security measures.
