EHRC, an independent supervisory body in the United Kingdom, published on Thursday the results of the anti-Semitism investigation within the Labour Party. The conclusion is that the party leader failed to respond to allegations of anti-Semitism and illegal actions, including persecution and discrimination, were committed in this case.
With the results of the investigation in hand, the new Labour leadership has decided to suspend Corbyn’s militancy and initiate an internal investigation. The British Parliament has also suspended its powers.
“It was hard for me to read this report,” said the new Labour leader, Keir Starmer. “Today is a day of shame for the Labour Party. We have disappointed the Jewish people, our affiliates, our loved ones and British citizenship,” he added.
Corbyn, for his part, has published on Facebook that his opponents have exaggerated the case, both inside and outside the party, for political reasons – Corbyn represents the most leftist stream of Labour. The former Labour leader has also announced that he will oppose the decision, suggesting that the report that has served himself in the tray has been written by Starmer.
According to the EHRC report, there have been impediments and interventions in the party over the past four years to investigate specific complaints related to anti-Semitism. Specific cases have been listed in the Guardian newspaper: The core of this case can be summed up in the attitude of the former Israeli leader to the criticisms that the Labour around Corbyn have made on social networks to Israel.
