The lack of recognition of the Basque – and, on the contrary, English, German or French – has caused discomfort in Navarre, and the President of the Government of Navarra, María Chivite, has explained why: “It has to do with the Basque decree, and right now it is still in the process of internal processing.” The Basque decree, approved in the previous legislature, is suspended as a result of the decisions of the courts.
Attack on Euskera
GEROA Bai, EH Bildu, Podemos and Left-Ezkerra have called in Parliament for a review of the OPE in Navarre. EH Bildu has described it as “madness” not giving value to the Basque, I-E has described it as “horror.” The Navarre Suma has not seen any problems in the convening of the Copa del Rey.
The Council of Euskalgintza has been clear against this latest job offer, but also against the language policy being developed by the Government of Navarra as a whole. The Council considers that the government is "repeatedly" violating language rights, both in this call and in other OPs. He recalled that in the year 2000 the UPN Government began to stop giving value to Euskera in the OPs and has denounced that the current government continues along the same path. In the Council's view, a new Basque decree is needed, but its role must be to guarantee linguistic rights, and, on the contrary, it has the feeling that more than a step forward will be a step backwards.
The Navarra Federation of Municipalities and Councils was born with the objective of "protecting and promoting their shared interests and local autonomy". A Communication Officer will soon be selected who will have to master Spanish and Basque.
