This Tuesday, after 107 days of hunger strike, Mapuche leader Celestino Córdova has signed an agreement with the Chilean Government, which has decided to disconvene the hunger strike. Córdova has reached an eight-point agreement granting him permission to go to his country of origin during the execution of the sentence, "which may be extended up to a maximum of 30 hours and which fulfils the conditions imposed by the health and prison authorities". To do so, it will collect the treatments agreed between the official health professionals and the traditional Mapuche medicine.
As for the other 27 Mapuches on hunger strike, the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights has committed "not to be disciplined by the Gendarmerie of Chile when the strike is disconvened, based on the resolution adopted". The presentation to the Education and Labour Centres of persons deprived of their liberty from the peoples of origin shall be facilitated, at their request.
