Technological Sovereignty will be the protagonist of the XI Basque Informaticians. During the session
- The session, organized by the US Department of Informatics, the Miramon Digital Company and the Basque Language Service of the City Council of San Sebastian, will take place on May 17 at the Miramon Tecnologi Meeting Point in San Sebastian. The main theme of the eleventh edition will be Technological Sovereignty, which, as in previous editions, also seeks to exchange experiences and create spaces for collaboration. On the same day III. Internet Day will be celebrated in collaboration with the PuntuEUS Foundation. Registration is free but registration is required at www.ueu.eus.
The coordinator of the meeting, Edurne Larrazá, gives the reasons for choosing this theme:
"Sovereignty is an issue that is in full swing, with many edges, and that we Basque computer scientists would like to look at and analyze from the vantage point of technology. At a time when technology permeates every aspect of our lives, we would like to look face to face at the contribution that each of us makes to its use and development. We will discuss the role of technologies in the path to an organized and sovereign society. In order to talk about the projects that can be the basis of sovereignty and to analyze the ways of ideation and implementation of these technologies, we wanted to include different entities in the debate: institutions, initiatives from the people, professionals of the area and even the academy itself."
Josu Waliño, Director of the PuntuEUS Foundation, explained that on 17 May the International Internet Day is celebrated all over the world and that for the third consecutive year the PuntuEUS Foundation will organise an Internet Day in Basque to commemorate the situation of the Basque language on the Internet: “This time, in a special context, in the context of digital sovereignty and in collaboration with the UEU. Because when we talk about digital sovereignty, we also talk about language. The idea is to celebrate with the challenges and objectives in mind that Euskara is alive on the Internet, and we will proclaim our commitment to make it even more alive in the coming years on Internet Day in an open and festive way. In addition, we will put a new challenge in the spotlight: We're going to 10,000. Are you coming?”
