There are two plans to attract more visitors than now on the Nervión Cascade. The Diputación Foral de Álava will enable a new green viaduct of 6.5 kilometers that will connect the Alavesa town of Delika with the cascade of the Nervión, in addition to a new viewpoint and a Tibetan wooden bridge. The Junta de Castilla y León is also studying the project to replace the viewpoint of Monte Santiago, with the objective of increasing the influx of tourists.
According to official Board figures, more than 20,000 people enter each year to visit the Nervión waterfall from Monte Santiago Park, and about 100,000 cars are parked in the parking spaces enabled.
Budget of EUR 200,000
The cataract of the Nervión, located between Álava and Burgos, belongs to Amurrio, although most of the roads leading to the Mirador del Nervión are located in Burgos, within the Natural Monument of Monte Santiago. With the new project, the Diputación de Álava wants to build its own viewpoint in the territory and adapt the current path that runs through the Delika River, until it reaches the waterfall on the lower part. "In the first phase, the Diputación General will adapt the route by improving access to existing roads, restoring the vegetation of some areas, fences, conditioning the soil, signaling and enabling a series of unique steps to cross the river," he explained.
A recreational area will also be built around the Zabarondo stone bridge and a large 60-meter Tibetan bridge will be built across the river along its route. It is also possible to link this tour with Orduña, both by Tertanga and Artomaña.
The project will involve an investment of EUR 202,505, of which 50% will be financed through European funds.
Viewpoint with glass
The Junta de Castilla y León, for its part, announced in 2017 that it would replace the emblematic viewpoint of the Nervión waterfall by a large hanging viewpoint glazed within the program of locating tourist infrastructures in the naturaleza.La institution of Castilla y León claimed the poor state of the lookout that exists and stressed the need to build a "more striking structure, always guaranteeing accessibility and preserving that the design of the new landscape coincide with the observation."
Although the Junta de Castilla y León announced its intention to launch the works in 2019, the project is still being studied and the process to reach a consensus with the municipalities of the area is open. In addition, according to the meters that the new platform enters the ravine, it would be introduced into the valley of Arrastaria, so the Junta de Castilla y León should have the permission of the City Hall of Amurrio, which was initially not seen with good eyes.
