The container terminal of the port of Bilbao is acquired by a Chinese multinational
- Cosco Shipping Ports, a multinational company in Hong Kong, has acquired 51% of the company that owns container ports in the Spanish state.
As in Greece in 2016, Cosco has acquired it in most of the ports of the Spanish state. Last Tuesday he bought 51% of the shares from the Noatum group for 203.5 million euros. Noatum Ports controls the ports of Valencia and Bilbao, as well as the dry ports of Madrid and Zaragoza.
The alternative expresses concern about the working conditions that the multinational can impose, denouncing that Greek shippers are “in a state of slavery”: “They are given wages of misery, endless hours of work and no training to carry out the dangerous work that has to be done. It is even more serious because there are no unions or labor agreements in reality, which leads to a proliferation of poverty, insecurity, poor working conditions and lack of dignity.”
In 2016, Cosco acquired 51% of the shares of Greek ports and can buy 67% over a five-year period, completely privatizing the sector.
