Between September and October last year, the aggressor died at least four men in the Casco Viejo de Bilbao, after staying home to the victims through the applications to bind. The Ertzaintza secretly investigates four other deaths. The police have identified the aggressor, but they don't know where he is. At first the deaths were considered natural, but the brother of one of the victims lifted the hare when he realized that someone was taking money out of his dead brother's current account. The autopsy resulted in the finding of a liquid ecstasy to the deceased.
“The lack of response is homophobia”
The issue has received many criticisms, either because as people from the vulnerable group are dying, a clear institutional complaint was expected, either because greater social repercussions and stronger protests have been called for, or because the way in which some media report on the victims and the deaths has led to a new victimization of the victims.
This has been summarized by researcher Eneko Ander Romero on social networks: “Our lives are worthless. We do not deserve solidarity. We have sought for the use of these applications, for our ‘life model’. Take away the “gay” and meted out any other word, institutions, parties and everyone would be sending messages! Ah, but with the Marites… We are still ‘others’, obscene, immoral, dirty, perverse, promiscuous! & '97; How do we get rid of urinating! This makes us second-class citizens. By living our desire we do not deserve solidarity, even when we are killed. I will say clearly, I do not know whether these murders are homophobic attacks or not. The lack of response, on the other hand, is homophobia. A truly internalized homophobia.”

They call to occupy the streets
Coordinator E28 underlines the gravity of the situation and criticises the “complicit institutional silence”. “On 17 May, the day against LGTB phobia, we see more than ever the need to mobilize for the attacks we are suffering in recent months.”
Along the same lines, the Basque Observatory LGTBI+ has encouraged people to “continue to occupy the streets”, to continue “with protests and mobilizations against this violence towards LGTBI+ people.” The Observatory has been concerned about the attacks and hate crimes of recent years and has called on effective prevention political institutions and a comprehensive LGTBI+ Basque law.
