The Bishop of Bilbao will recognize for the first time the sexual abuse of the Church
- The Bishop of Bilbao, Joseba Segura, will pray on Friday at 18:00 to apologize to victims of sexual abuse. In February the Diocese of Bilbao gave the results of research on sexual abuse and since 2019 has opened 32 reports.
In Bizkaia, the bishop of Bilbao, Joseba Segura, will recognize the sexual abuse committed by members of the Church. Apologize to your victims praying at the Cathedral of Santiago de Bilbao at 18:00. It will be the first such event in the Spanish state.
32 clerics who committed identified sexual abuse
The Diocese of Bilbao announced in February the results of research into sexual abuse. Since 2019, the Child Protection Commission has opened 32 reports, one for each of the abuses. In total, 50 victims have been interviewed.
Eighteen of the 32 reports correspond to religious orders and fourteen to diocesan abbeys in Bilbao, all of them dead. All cases are prescribed and the Diocese has not wanted to give the name of the aggressors.
In the Spanish state, according to a study by El País, there are almost 2,000 cases of sexual abuse related to the Church. In Hego Euskal Herria, 96 people are accused of child abuse.
