On Tuesday, 12 December, the Supreme Court approved that neighbouring communities may ban tourist housing in their buildings. Thus, the civil area has responded to the resources presented by two communities of neighbors of Oviedo and San Sebastián, making it difficult to expand this type of housing and establishing a precedent for future cases.

In this regard, at a time when the question of tourist housing is more present than ever, the case of a Bilbao agent this week should be highlighted. The Housing Union AZET presented the “Guide against Tourist Housing” on Monday. As the agents have explained, this guide offers “a useful material to prevent by law the appearance of tourist weights in a community or to increase rates to existing tourist weights”.

The SAT has a long history of responding to the material needs of Bilbao's neighbours. Asked about his objective or motivation, Ane Salvador, associate of the agent, answered in the interview last February for Uriola: “Because we believe that in this way we can create conditions for fighting and territorializing class struggle in our neighborhoods, that is, contributing to a broader struggle. Therefore, our goal would be to create a political community that battles together and progressively build popular power.” In this way, they try to respond to the material needs of the residents' housing.

Back to the guide presented, the objective is to deal with one of the main effects of tourist accommodation. They pointed out that this type of housing has dramatic consequences: “the rise in the price of rentals; the impulse of the lives of tourists rather than of the working-class neighbours; and, ultimately, the expulsion of the neighbors from the neighborhoods in which we live”.

To present the guide they have uploaded a video to the Twitter channel and created a QR code to download the same guide. In addition, they will be distributed over the coming weeks and various events will be held to present and implement the guide.
