UEFA will give way to the 16th edition of the Euro Cup between June and July 2020 and, on the proposal of the Spanish Real Football Federation, four competition matches will be held at the San Mamés stadium in Bilbao. The rejection of the Euro Cup to Bilbao has not been welcomed by all the citizens, so the dynamic Bilbao Euro 2020 has been launched.
“UEFA 2020 will be the next macro-event that the Basque and Spanish bourgeoisie will bring to our city,” said the members of the dynamic, who did not want to show in Bilbao or in any other city of Euskal Herria such events. Despite the fact that the excuse for the business in this case is football, they have made a reading that goes beyond football and have placed the Euro Cup within a strategy of the bourgeoisie: behind the interest of bringing the Euro Cup to Bilbao, according to the dynamics, it is about turning Bilbao into a city that is a showcase to the measure of the class interests of the bourgeoisie.
“Just as they have done with the G7 or the Tour of Spain, the Spanish and French states will take full advantage of all the possibilities to re-reject the national project of the Basque working class,” they said. Proof of this is that while the Basque Country Selekzioa refuses to play, the selections of Spain and France have been classified to play there. “It sells Bilbao as a Spanish city on an international level, with the complicity of the autonomist bourgeoisie represented by the PNV,” they stressed. Furthermore, they have stated that it is incomprehensible to them that “genocidal states such as Turkey and Israel have the opportunity to participate”.
The dynamic envisages spreading a "false discourse" that says that the Eurocup will bring wealth, and from the very beginning it has been denied: “This Euro Cup will not bring any wealth to the Basque working class. Behind their bright lights, their hypocritical smiles and their smiles, there will only be the exploitation of the working class, the precariousness of our lives and the commodification and privatization of public space.”
The macro-act will also involve an increase in violence against women: “In the Euro Cup, capitalism uses the image of women as a heteropatriarchal and binary system for male consumption, for example, through male advertisements. Within the above domination, the most precarious women will suffer the most.” Among others, they have pointed out that the aggressions suffered by working women in the Basque Country are aimed at cleaning personnel, sex workers and hotel owners. “Also through this Euro Cup, we are outright opposed to the added oppression of women affected by the capital,” they reported.
They have pointed out that all these collateral damage that the Euro Cup will bring must be added to the increase in the police presence in the city: “The movements taking place against this imposition will take advantage of all the instruments to hit repressively and turn Euskal Herria into a police state once again. Our streets will be filled with clowns, civil carts and other police forces. Its mission will be to protect the interests of the powerful and the fascists who will come to Euskal Herria.”
All these factors have motivated the dynamic Bilbao Euro 2020 and since its presentation have made it clear that they will face the macro-event: “We will respond with dignity to the metropolis of capital, to the bourgeois model of life, to the macro-events and to the commodification of our lives, recovering our streets and our lives, whose wealth brings our misery.”
