Two workers from the winery Crespo Zabala de Lanciego (Álava) die on Sunday at noon and another are admitted to the hospital.
According to sources from the Department of Agriculture of the Council of Álava and the Department of Security of the Basque Government, it was called around 13:30 noon to report on the disaster in the emergency services. After the visit of the health services, the death of two of them was confirmed and the third was transferred by helicopter to the hospital in Logroño.
The oenologist Mikel Garaizabal has defined carbon dioxide as “toxic” and “dangerous” gas in his statements to EITB, noting that the winery must be very ventilated to evade carbon dioxide. Therefore, considering that there is no oxygen due to toxic gas, Garaizabal confirms that both workers died unconscious.
