Two lies and a great truth
That's what the Emakume Master Cup tells us.
The first lie: Despite putting “Master”, it is women who participate in this championship; the word “Master” corresponds to men and reminds us of the time when only men played or acted. Although today the meaning of the word “master” has been disseminated, I do not understand why it is used with women, as if there were no other words, since in Basque the “boss” would be well.

Second lie: Despite including the “Master Cup”, the participants are neither English, nor Yankees, nor Anglo-Saxon. I'm not sure, but almost all of them are Basque, and most of them are Basque. The spectators will not come from England, the United States or anywhere in the world to watch this championship either. Most of the viewers will be from here, and many of them will be Basque. Moreover, here the winners are given the txapela, so it would be much more appropriate to use the “tournament”.
A great truth. When we see something in English in the name of an initiative, in a label, in a title or in the window of a store, and we do not see it in Basque, it is clear that it takes away space from the Basque (in addition to infringing the linguistic rights of the Basque people). I'm not just talking about physical space, I'm also talking about psychological space. In this case (and in others), if English is used to give more prestige or prestige to an initiative, it is being said that Euskera does not deserve fame or name, which is of no use at all.
Soon the Basque Country will arrive and then, in a few days, thousands of people will be committed to be drowning and belarriprest. It would not be wrong for our institutions and associations to commit themselves to declaring all kinds of initiatives in Euskera, not only to see and listen to them during those days, but to euskaldunify them forever and disseminate them all over the world, just as all free countries play in their language. Let us see if next year we will have the opportunity to see the Absolute Women’s Championship.
