The Berriozar Betting House Platform has pointed out that "Berriozar's neighbors have no alternative but to organize", since "the law can regulate or hinder the expansion of these businesses, but it cannot avoid the extension of the pathology or our impoverishment and, above all, it cannot achieve the closure of these businesses. That’s why we’ve organized ourselves on this platform, to organize ourselves as a people, to fight these businesses.”
"They have spread to working-class neighborhoods and villages, that is, to the places where people who suffer mainly from the consequences of this business live," they have denounced. "The impact of these businesses goes beyond subordination, immerses us in the betting world, distances us from reality and keeps us submissive and indifferent to our daily problems."
The Berriozar City Council has announced that it will not authorize the opening of new betting houses from now on. While applauding the decision, the Platform has pointed out that there is currently a playhouse and another house is about to open in this area.
The neighbours of Berriozar have called to participate in the demonstration to be held on 18 January.
