The Campezo Library Launches Guide to Promoting Reading on Equality
- The Kanpezu book guide took into account the role of Makaria Iriarte, a woman "as wise as important" from Atauri.
The Municipal Library of Campezo and the Equality Service of the Alavesa Mountain Group have published a book guide to promote reading about equality. The guide also includes books by female writers who have found it necessary to promote their work and visibility.
The guide was created only in digital format, and as for the structure, the proposals in Basque and Spanish have a different structure. In the case of the Basque Country, they have added the children's literature, "since we want to extend the Basque reading among both children and young people". The books will be available in the Municipal Library of Campezo or in the network of libraries of the Basque Country.
Tribute to Makaria Iriarte
The Kanpezu book guide took into account the role of Makaria Iriarte, a woman "as wise as important" from Atauri. "He was born in 1901. Among other things, he was a reader and liked to transmit orally to children stories, stories and anecdotes of his people and their environment".
The guide wanted to thank Iriarte Atauri herself, as well as other female writers and illustrators for their work throughout history. "Some had to sign their work as anonymous, others felt compelled to use the nickname, many suffered heavy retaliation for writing -- this simple tribute to all of them."
The members of the Municipal Library of Champions and the Equality Service of the Group of the Alavesa Mountain have recognized that the elaboration of such a guide has been a great challenge: "We've learned a lot in the process. So we'd like to be useful and enjoy reading books."
Likewise, the authors of the guide, Bego Etayo Eren?a La hora violeta, dynamizing the feminist reading club of the Alavesa Mountain and Ainhoa Aldazabal Gallastegi, dynamizing the feminist reading club in Euskera of the Alavesa Mountain, for their collaboration in the elaboration of this book guide.
