The Environmental Working Group has investigated 45 of the cereals that can be found among breakfast products, all derived from fields that use herbicides. On August 15, it was reported that glyphosate has been found in 43 of the products investigated, 31 of them at a very high level. As breakfast cereals are sold to children, they can increase a child’s risk of cancer.

In fact, these data have been released at the time when the safety of glisofate is discussed. While U.S. regulators argue that the herbicide probably does not cause cancer, the World Health Organization says it could be a cancer agent. The latter organization’s International Research Center declared glyphosate a possible carcinogen in 2015.

Glyphosate was developed 40 years ago by Monsanto and became the world’s most popular herbicide. According to official data, 250 million pounds of glyphosate are fumigated annually in the United States since 2011. The highest level of concentration of this herbicide can be found in wheat, barley or oats.

According to what they have been able to show through the study, 5 out of 16 products grown with organic oats also contained glyphosate. Although the level of glyphosate in products derived from organic farming is not sufficient to endanger the health of the consumer, they should not contain chemicals.
