Does veganism benefit or harm the environment?
- The English Wikipedia summarizes that veganism claims the renunciation of any product derived from animals, especially in food, and is linked to it the philosophy that rejects the use of animals as goods. Several categories are distinguished within veganism. Food vegans [dietary vegans, strict vegetarians] refuse to eat any animal product, not only meat, but any product derived from eggs, dairy products or animals. Vegans of ethics [ethical vegans] propagate philosophy in all parts of their lives, giving up any use of animals. Environmental veganism claims that the growth of animal products on the industrial farm is harmful to the environment and not sustainable.
Vegans, animalists, anti-specionists… our aim here is not a presentation of all, nor of the responses that their actions have generated in our environment, ARGIA has a news section related to Animal Rights.
The approaches that deal with vegans and anti-speciists, in their entirety or in some respects, have also taken shape in these years, often from conservative forces, but also from progressive people. As a sign of this, in February 2019 Argia published the chronicle “Small farmers want to respond to animalists and vegans”, which presented the position of the small farmers of the French union Confederation Paysanne, possibly signed by many small farmers in the Basque Country.
In the hope that the relationship or dialogue between farmers and vegano-anti-specialists is necessary, we have created a collection of articles – Breeding, slaughter and feeding of animals – that can be read in full on the ARGIA website, to which we have incorporated two of them, about the environmental benefits or damage that can be suffered by the renunciation of the use or use of animals.
