They stand up against BBVA in Andalusia for the eviction of the Cerro Libertad plot
- The city court has decided to evict the land occupied in Cerro Libertad Jaén. The plot of 75 hectares belongs to BBVA and was occupied by the Union of Andalusian Workers (SAT). SAT members denounce that the site is “abandoned” by BBVA, which receives subsidies from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
On April 1, 2017, SAT occupied the land that had been abandoned in the town of Aguardentero. The land belongs to the company Anida, which is the real estate agency of the financial entity BBVA. The occupation action had a clear objective: Denounce the imprisonment of Andrés Bódalo, head of the SAT, when he spent a year in prison. Since the farmers took over the land, 65 hectares have been filled with olive trees and used to produce olive oil in a province where unemployment is 30%.
The SAT has organized numerous actions to denounce the eviction. On Wednesday, Jaén’s employees held meetings in front of BBVA’s headquarters in their town. On Saturday, a march has been organized from the BBVA headquarters in Jaén to the occupied plot; and on March 19, the same day that the Spanish State Security forces plan to evict the plot, the actions of Cerro Libertad will be organized.
Solidarity from Vitoria
Rekaleor is Alive! The platform has joined the protests of the SAT with concentrations in front of BBVA’s headquarters in Dato Street in Vitoria-Gasteiz. After the mobilization, Errekaleor Viva! The platforms have questioned that “the land belongs to those who cultivate it” and not to those who “exploit it it for profit”. On the other hand, they have called for organizing gestures of solidarity with any project that questions capitalism in favor of Cerro Libertad.
